It Ain’t Over Yet . Unleash Your Courage and Let’s Get Started
“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” ~ Corrie Ten Boom
“I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the mark (goal) for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 3:13-
You are facing 2024 and you maybe thinking what have I accomplished this year. As you reflect back for a moment , are there some forgotten promises you made to yourself?
Do you look back thinking about unfulfilled goals or what you haven’t done, or finished?
Do you often wonder what could have been if you had pursued your long-held dreams?
“Do you often find yourself saying ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, only to realize that months have passed?”
What would it mean to take action to get started now and tackle some – or even one – of them to build your momentum now and finish your year strong?
Maybe you have had goals you wanted to accomplish earlier this year but you have not done a thing .
Life happens, distractions arise, and you lose focus.
Have the Courage to get started on achieving your dreams.
Do not allow past failures, fear, and mistakes to stop you now. Pray and Seek God. Release Baggage. Forgive Yourself. Forgive others. Don’t look back. Press forward.
Let’s take the action steps we need to grow closer to our goals. Let’s do self-care, exercising, and eating healthy.
Procrastination
I have sometimes used “busy-ness” as an excuse not to do the things I know I really should do that would add value to my life and others such as doing a mastermind course. Things that will require more time, more commitment, and involve a bigger risk of failure.
However, they are things that involve beginning to pursue a more rewarding career path, getting back into shape, or pursuing a long-held dream.
We come up with all sorts of reasons why now just isn’t the right time. Too busy. Too broke. Too risky. Too old. Too young. Too late. Not good enough.
Sometimes those reasons are valid. But more often, the cause is Fear.
Fear of failing, fear of rejection, or fear of our inability to have what we truly want.
Did you know it costs you when you delay?
It costs your finances, careers, and physical health, Also it costs your peace of mind and the opportunity of experiencing a far deeper sense of personal fulfillment.
So, if you are tired of procrastinating here are two small beginning action steps to over come procrastination..
.
Today, let’s celebrate the courage to BEGIN.
Actionable Step:
Forgive Yourself
The first step in moving forward is to look back without judgment. Yes, you had plans, and they haven’t materialized yet. That’s okay.
Every journey has its detours, but what matters is getting back on track.
Evaluate and be honest about what caused you to get off track.
Don’t get stuck there. Learn from it. Forgive yourself.
Letting go of past disappointments will give you the mental space you need to refocus
So start doing what you need to do to make your dreams come true. Let’s get it started -make the phone call, complete the application, or start the book.
Remember done is better than perfect. I will write more about that later in another blog.
5 Steps or Strategies for Overcoming Procrastination and Getting Started
1. Write your goal and how you will feel when you achieve it. Visualize yourself having achieved it. Try to imagine the emotions you will feel once you have achieved it.
2. Write how you will feel a year from now if you continue to procrastinate. Get really present to the cost of continued inaction.
3. Write 2 goals or action steps you can do before the end of the year to build your momentum and balance. Identify an area of life that needs your attention. Recall what was important to you when you started the year and what you wanted to achieve, like changes in your work life, health, or relationship. That could be a place to start. Find a way to take some steps such as filling out the application, and making the call you have been hesitant to do.
4. Decide what’s achievable. What can you do in the weeks that are left in the year? Determine what can wait and what can’t wait. You may decide to table a particular goal for now. You want to be realistic about what you can accomplish once you focus on the “doable” and achievable things for this year.
5. Encourage yourself. You may be tempted to beat yourself up for not meeting or getting farther along with your goals by now. Maybe you won’t hit your goals by December 31, but you are on your way. Resist judging yourself and simply notice where you are and what you’re excited about.
Accept yourself, flaws and all. As stated earlier Forgive yourself. Do not allow yourself to become stuck in the past as it takes energy from the present work. If you’re working toward a goal, even if it’s not achieved by the end of the year, you’re still unleashing your courage and taking steps to finish strong because you’re taking steps and dedicating your time and energy toward your aspirations.
